This heaven on earth cake is an easy summer no-bake dessert that can be made up to 2 days ahead. Airy angel food cake cubes are layered with cherry pie filling and rich vanilla pudding, then topped with swirls of whipped topping and more cherry filling.

  1. Prepare the angel food cake mix according to package instructions. Allow it to cool completely, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and milk until smooth. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to thicken.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cooled angel food cake cubes with half of the cherry pie filling. Gently fold in the pudding mixture until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, mix the thawed whipped topping with the vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. In a large serving dish or trifle bowl, layer half of the angel food cake mixture, followed by half of the whipped topping. Repeat with the remaining cake mixture and whipped topping.
  6. Top with the remaining cherry pie filling. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
