Heaven on earth cake
Description
This heaven on earth cake is an easy summer no-bake dessert that can be made up to 2 days ahead. Airy angel food cake cubes are layered with cherry pie filling and rich vanilla pudding, then topped with swirls of whipped topping and more cherry filling.
Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) package angel food cake mix
- 1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
- 1 (3.4 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
- 2 cups milk
- 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Steps
- Prepare the angel food cake mix according to package instructions. Allow it to cool completely, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and milk until smooth. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to thicken.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooled angel food cake cubes with half of the cherry pie filling. Gently fold in the pudding mixture until well combined.
- In another bowl, mix the thawed whipped topping with the vanilla extract until smooth.
- In a large serving dish or trifle bowl, layer half of the angel food cake mixture, followed by half of the whipped topping. Repeat with the remaining cake mixture and whipped topping.
- Top with the remaining cherry pie filling. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
